Enjoy natural snow at Storuman’s slalom slope

Umanbacken is located within easy reach of Storuman municipality. With 100 percent natural snow, the slopes offers varied and family-friendly skiing. Umanbacken has become a great alternative leisure centre for the communitys children and young people, where they meet their friends, practice tricks on skis and boards and enjoy alpine skiing in their everyday lives.

Umanbacken can also be reached by snowmobile. If you follow the “ring track” around Storuman village, you can turn off to the snowmobile track that leads up to Umanbacken at the point where the snowmobile track crosses the road. There are several kilometres of cross-country skiing tracks in the area around the slalom slope, so you can enjoy a complete and affordable winter holiday if you want to be close to all the services in the centre and enjoy a variety of winter activities.

Umanbacken is run by an association and is based on voluntary work, with Storuman enthusiasts and families with children helping to run the lift and cafeteria. It is possible to bring your own coffee and fire on one of the barbecue sites. For the 2022 season, the lift has received a new wire to make it more reliable.

In collaboration with the municipality, we have had the opportunity to replace the wire in the lift and carry out general maintenance on the facility. Before the season, there were some question marks about the opening hours, but thanks to the commitment of many people and the aforementioned cooperation with the municipality, this was resolved in a good way, says Patrik Nilsson, a member of the association’s board.

The lack of snow in the early part of the season is usually a challenge, but once the white gold arrives, the slopes will be in full swing.

The plan is to stay open as usual, Monday to Thursday 17:30-20:30 and Saturday to Sunday 11:30-15:30. We are currently working on staffing the lift and keeping our fingers crossed that it will work out, and we hope that everyone who wants to visit us will feel welcome to our fun slope near the centre of Storuman,” says Patrik Nilsson.

It is also possible to ski from the top down to Utsikten when the café is open, and then glide smoothly back down to the next slope. Don’t miss the view both from Utsikten and from the top of the hill – standing on the top of the hill as the first pale rays of the January sun reach the horizon is a wonderful natural experience! During the spring and winter, the hill is a popular venue for various events and it is possible to rent the heated cabin for other private individuals or clubs.
