Zakrisgården is Storuman’s oldest remaining building and is estimated to have been built in 1803. The house is clearly visible from the road E12, but is now privately owned.
The last occupants of the house were soldiers on standby during the Second World War, and at that time the chimney was destroyed and holes were cut in the wall at the back, traces of which can still be seen today. The house was built without a single nail and consists of two rooms, one of which is a large kitchen. Storuman’s first school was also located in the building, almost 100 years after it was finished, between 1903 and 1907. During the 1960s the building served as a tourist information centre and it was not until then the electricity was installed.
