Activities and sights
Utsikten is the stunning hilltop viewpoint from where you can gaze out across Storuman and beyond. Take a picnic and enjoy the spectacular sight of lakes and forests. During the summer and at certain times during the rest of the year you can visit the Utsikten café. On a clear day you can even see the mountains of Hemavan Tärnaby from the view tower. For local history enthusiasts, Stensele church is a must. Rumoured to be the largest wooden church in Sweden, it has on display a copy of the world’s smallest bible, a quarter the size of a stamp.
Fishing in and around Storuman is great all year round. There are over 2,400 lakes in Storuman Municipality and main Umeälven river has a multitude of habitats. Rental boats and equipment are available at many locations. A picturesque part of Storuman to head for is the Hembygdsgården local museum on the Luspholmarna islets where – if it´s open – you can buy fresh bread baked in a traditional wood-fired oven. Walk along one of many paths, soak up the sun on local sandy waterside beaches or take a dip in the cool, clear waters of Lake Storuman. On the road to Luspholmarna you find Hermelinkullarna, a large beautiful green area, excellent for promenades or a picknick.
Walking paths are scattered all over Storuman and many of them are found on maps. You can easily find a path suitable for your needs. To travel to sights outside of Storuman centrum it is possible to rent bikes and cars.
